THIS IS HOME - GRANDE RIVIERE

This is Home Premiere - This is Grand Rivière This is Home. This is Grande Rivière. For the weeks ahead we won’t be able to venture to our beautiful beaches and rivers, but we invite you to live vicariously through our photo/video series - This is Home. To celebrate NGC’s 45th Anniversary, we embarked on a journey with the talented Logging Tape Media team to celebrate “home.” NGC is indigenous to Trinidad and Tobago and belongs to us. All our ambitions and efforts are at the forefront of energy and at the heart of Trinidad and Tobago. We celebrate and are proud of all that is Trinbagonian. As a national company, through the “This is Home” series, we are claiming and celebrating our natural heritage. “This is Home” is a virtual staycation, showcasing both hidden and familiar destinations. So, when we can venture out freely again, we encourage you to embrace exploration right here at home. Last week, we shared beautiful images of a rural village situated on the north coast of Trinidad known as Grande Rivière. It is located between Toco and Matelot. Grande Rivière, meaning big river, gets its name from our colonial French influence in Trinidad and Tobago. As you can guess, there is a large river which runs through the village meeting the sea. Well-known amongst nature seekers, it offers great bird watching opportunities. Grande Rivière is home to species such as the endangered Blue-throated Piping-Guan (Pawi), Crimson-crested Woodpecker, and Swallow-tailed Kite. The Grande Rivière beach is best known as a primary nesting ground for the endangered leatherback turtle. The plateau of the beach, which has an area of loose sand, is favoured by the turtles. Whatever your reason to eventually visit, we do hope you enjoy and cherish our home. This is Grande Rivière. This is home. . . . THIS IS HOME - BRASSO SECO

Episode 4 - This is Home. This is Brasso Seco. This is Home. This is Brasso Seco. To celebrate NGC’s 45th Anniversary, we embarked on a journey with the talented Logging Tape Media team to celebrate “home.” For the past few weeks, we have ventured virtually to Grande Rivière, Columbus Bay and Charlotteville. Catch the missed episodes on NGC’s website - https://ngc.co.tt/ngc_gallery/this-is-home/ Week Four’s road trip takes us to the rural community of Brasso Seco. Brasso Seco is a rough Spanish translation for “dry branch” attributed to a channel of the Paria River which only ever gets wet in heavy rainy seasons. Hidden in the Northern Range, Brasso Seco, located an hour’s drive from the Piarco International Airport and 45 minutes from Arima, is an eco-visitor’s dream come true. The community has a rich history which includes cocoa and coffee plantations, some of which still operate today. The village is probably the best base for hiking in Trinidad, owing to its proximity to both mountains and coastline and at least five waterfalls and numerous river pools. It is also an excellent spot for birdwatching. The area is surrounded by pristine rain forests and bordered by incredible beaches on the north coast. Scientists, students, hikers and tourists alike come to observe and enjoy the range of bio-diversity full of crystal-clear rivers, countless waterfalls and a plethora of birds, butterflies, mammals, reptiles and insects. When we can venture out freely again, Basso Seco is the place to be for preserved beauty and simplicity. This is Brasso Seco. This is Home. On the drive down, visitors can also have au naturel spa experience with a mud bath at L’eau Michel Mud Volcano. Upon arriving to the Moruga shoreline it is often dotted with colourful fishing boats. The church on the seafront is a landmark of the village. Another one is the iconic bridge that says you have reached Moruga! The beaches are the main reason people go to Moruga known for its beautiful view of calm waters. Every beach has its own treasure such as caves and beautiful rock formations – every geological enthusiast’s dream.
